A prison in Atlanta, Georgia has partnered up with a company to give inmates a dog to train and look after. The company, Canine CellMates, pairs each prisoner with a dog that is awaiting adoption. This allows for the orphaned animals to adapt to a new environment, and it gives the prisoners some stress relief and comfort, as well as a companion.

Not only does the program allow for shelter dogs to be trained prior to adoption, but it also helps improve the self-esteem of the prisoners. With the animals loving and trusting them, it can change how they feel and they begin to value themselves more. It’s a great story that sees both pups and prisoners being reformed for the better.
