Babies are so tiny when they’re born. It intellectually makes sense, but when you’re actually seeing a newborn baby for the first time, it’s hard to imagine a human life can be that small.
For Matthew Riddle III, he was so small he could fit in the palm of his parents’ hands—he weighed one pound and two ounces when he was born.
Matthew has a rare form of dwarfism, which accounts for his small size. He’s so small, most people assume he’s a newborn when he’s actually seven months old.
When his mom was 28 weeks pregnant, the doctors thought Matthew wasn’t growing and induced early labor. He spent his first 98 days in the NICU before the doctors figured out what was wrong.
Now that he’s been diagnosed, he has a brighter future ahead of him. With the help of therapy and surgeries, Matthew will one day be able to walk and talk—even go to school!
This brave little boy is a true example of perseverance and determination!
