Freehand Chainsaw Sculptor Transforms Fallen Trees Into Beautiful Animals

Freehand sculpting is being brought to a whole new level with chainsaws and tree trunks, and one of its leading artists is Jeffrey Michael Samudosky who’s now travelling and sculpting, quite literally, the USA full time. After living an incredibly active lifestyle up to his mid twenties he suffered a broken back from a snowboarding accident that left him home bound. After 8 months he managed to get back to being comfortable on his feet and headed out to his first snowboarding trip post-accident where he came across these kinds of wood carvings where his curiosity was peaked. Shortly after, he began working on his craft and discovered that he had a knack for it and decided to pursue it!

He’s been able to convert slabs of wood to amazing, meticulously detailed, pieces of art like the horse he built. These projects are quite time consuming, some taking upwards of 4 years like the one below. P.S: it’s up for sale if anyone is interested!

Or even getting commissioned by the city of Gig Harbor to transform an old tree trunk eyesore to a totem representing their community, where Jeff managed to “incorporate 162 local marine and wildlife elements”. The totem is on display in the Crescent Creek Park of Gig Harbor for all to enjoy.
