Private Yacht Witnesses the Birth of an Island

How this isn’t already the plot of a Sy-Fy movie is beyond me.

The crew of the yacht Maiken were on the water one day when they noticed something…unusual about the quality of the water.

There was a large amount of sand coming up to the surface of the water – so much, in fact, that it almost looked like there was a shore in the middle of the ocean.

They went about their way, but the problem only seemed to get worst. Eventually, the crew made the decision to gun it, taking off as quickly as possible, lest they wind up stranded on a sand dune in the middle of the water.

As they sped off, they noticed that there was still a clear break in the water from the wake of their boat. Still, the sand began to climb.

After getting a safe distance away, the crew felt a strange rumbling beneath them. They turned their heads back the way they came only to realize, to their horror, what they just narrowly escaped.

Off in the distance, back where they had just been, a large, mountainous structure emerged from below the surface. It was a volcano, and it was slowly but surely climbing out of the deep.

Amazingly, where there had been nothing mere moments ago, there was a full-sized island of volcanic rock and sand.

To witness the ascent of a new volcano is an experience that only occurs once in several life times.
