What started out as an ordinary and routine renovation at Emerson High School in Oklahoma City, soon turned into a treasure trove of past history and art. Hidden for nearly a century, these old chalkboards were uncovered by accident when walls were being torn down as part of the reno.
Perfectly preserved chalkboards in three different classrooms had everything from notes, to rules, to works of art. Even the old school custodian left a note on the wall. It’s dated to December 1st, 1917. That was the year the Oklahoma State Capitol was finished, giving some perspective to just how old and historically significant this local history find is for the city.
