Sometimes the greatest journeys in life start with the simplest of things. Sometimes being kind and asking for nothing more than a box of donuts in exchange can completely turn your life around, and that’s exactly what happened to a young Memphis man. Chauncy Black offered to carry a man’s groceries in exchange for a box of donuts.
Matt White was the man in question. Seeing this kind boy struggle broke his heart, and he was compelled to help Chauncy beyond a simple box of donuts. Instead, he bought the 16-year-old teenager an entire cart full of groceries. But Matt White wasn’t done yet. He took to Facebook to share Chauncy’s story, and set up a GoFundMe page.

The original goal of the fundraiser was to raise $250 to buy Chauncy a lawnmower so he could start earning money that way. After just 13 days, the page had raised over $278,000. That’s more than a few lawnmowers! It also came with a bevy of non-monetary donations for Chauncy and his disabled mother.
Useful household items like furniture, bedding, and clothing among others have been donated in order to help. And while Matt calls Chauncy his hero, it’s probably safe to say that Matt is just as much a hero to Chauncy and his mother. It just goes to show that great things can come from even the simplest of gestures.
