Sulfur-crested cockatoos are native to Australia, but they are popular as pets all around the world. One reason for their popularity is their ability to talk, or “mimic” sounds they hear often. They can be trained to say particular words or phrases in a relatively short amount of time, and sometimes spontaneously pick up words that they hear often at home.

In this video, a Sulfur-crested cockatoo and its owner exchange exclamations of “peekaboo!” The cockatoo can easily say the three-syllable word and seems to have a lot of fun playing peekaboo with his owner.
