Veteran Has PTSD Attack During TV Interview, Then Service Dog Calms Him Down
Dogs can be more than just the perfect companion—they also can help with serious medical conditions.
Erick Scott is a husband, father, and a war veteran. He also has post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.
After 16 years of active duty, the gruesome things he’s seen still torment him, and almost ruined his life—until Gumbo came along.
Gumbo, a black Lab, is Erick’s service dog, trained specifically for Erick’s PTSD. He knows exactly when Erick is about to have an episode and calms him down immediately.
Even while Erick was doing an interview with USA Today, Gumbo sensed a potential episode and stepped in just in time.
