Navy Veteran Rescues a Mystery Woman Dangling from an Interstate Bridge

Paul DeLaughter was driving down the freeway when he noticed an unusual sight – an adult woman dangling from a chain-link fence, legs swinging, just above a bridge that crosses over several lanes. It’s the kind of unexpected sight that would make you stop your car and get out to assess the situation. Surprisingly, nobody did. Instead, most people drove past, honking at the inconvenience.

Not Paul, though. As a 23-year Navy veteran, he knew he had to lend a hand to this woman in distress. He stopped on the freeway, directing others to do the same. As he was coming up with a strategy, two 18-wheelers arrived and offered a hand. They stopped next to each other to give the woman a platform to land on. Paul climbed the onto the back of one of the trucks, but by the time he got up there, the woman had shimmied away. Paul then jumped over to the next truck, grabbed the woman by the legs, and caught her as she let go of the fence.

He stayed with her until emergency services arrived. No one is quite sure who the woman was and what led her to that situation. Either way, Paul is just glad she’s safe now.
