Woman Missing Since 1975 and Believed Dead, Then Police Find Her Hidden in Plain Sight

When someone goes missing, the pain the family goes through is incomprehensible—you simply don’t know what happened to them.

But thankfully, Flora Stevens’s loved ones finally have some closure.

In 1975, Flora’s husband dropped her off at a New York hospital and when he went to pick her up, she wasn’t there. Police filed a missing person report, but there were no answers—until now.

Police officers were investigating human remains that they believed belonged to Flora. When they asked her relatives for DNA samples to confirm their suspicions, they discovered someone had been using Flora’s social security number.

Then they tracked the person down.
