For most people, when you go about your day and encounter a homeless person, we don’t take the time to interact and actually get to know what put that person in the situation they are in.

Casey Fischer, on this particular day, was not like most people.

When she went to Dunkin Donuts one day, she encountered a homeless person singing on the side of the street and picking up change. He used this change to eventually go into Dunkin Donuts.

Fischer approached the man and began in small conversation with him being reluctant to talk. Since the man only had $1 in change, she purchased him a coffee and bagel and sat down to talk to him deeply about his life.

When Fischer had to go back to class, the homeless man, named Chris, told her to wait, he wanted to hand her a note. When Fischer unfolded and read the note later on, she was shocked to find out what it read:

“I wanted to kill myself today because of u I now do not. Thank u, beautiful person.”

It really takes simple gestures and kind actions that could make all the difference in saving one’s life.

Good job Casey!
