10. Justin Bieber Turning the Tables on TMZ

After feeling negatively represented on TMZ for a few years Justin Bieber decided to take things into his own hands on April’s Fools. A quick post on his twitter reading, “As promised taking all fan phone calls TODAY at (888) 847 9869. Talk to u soon!”

Giving the Beliebers an opportunity like that was something none of them would pass up but to each fan’s dismay and TMZ’s horror the line wasn’t for Bieber but actually TMZ’s tip line. That left the phone lines of TMZ to be jammed for the day with fans repeatedly trying to get through to their idol. Creative move from the young Justin at the time!

9. Leaky Tool

May 2nd 2006. That was the last time any Tool fans received recorded material from the band and ever since everyone has been craving more with the urge getting worse year by year. On April 1st 2015 the band went on Facebook to vent about the fact that their new music had been leaked, calling it “unsettling on many levels.” As you scrolled down the post they linked two youtube videos, one their original demo and the other the leak that had been plagiarized. As one opened the youtube video and let the song play, you were left Hechizeros Band’s El Sonidito instead leaving their fans with even less then what they came for.

Should’ve paid attention to that #marchthirtysecond hastag guys!

6. Black Sabbath Terrify Themselves

The year is 1973 and Black Sabbath are hard at work on their next record Sabbath Bloody Sabbath at Clearwell Castle in Wales, an 18th century building straight up out of a horror movie. Going off this vibe the band members began pranking themselves by throwing human sized dolls out of windows late at night right as Butler and Ward were walking back from a night out, putting a full-size mirror in front of Ward’s face and poking him awake to his broken reflection, and even Ozzy putting an old 8 track playing bizarre noises from under Tony Iommi’s bed. It got to the point that the jokes they pulled on each other spooked them out of the building, going all the way back home at night and back to the studio in the morning.

The once married power duo of The White Stripes began advertising the band as a brother and sister duo and not as husband and wife. This prompted many confused fans and poorly researched interviewers to be left awestruck as they learned they were romantically involved or seeing PDA from the two. Jack later went on to advertise that this was done to keep the focus of the band on the music and not the couple aspect of the group.

“When you see a band that is two pieces, husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend, you think, ‘Oh, I see…’ When they’re brother and sister, you go, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.’ You care more about the music, not the relationship—whether they’re trying to save their relationship by being in a band.”

4. The KISS vs. Rush Pie-pocalypse

KISS

June 7th 1975, the end of a long tour with KISS and openers Rush was a prank filled night as per end of tour tradition. As Rush was playing their set the KISS members came out running on stage in full outfit attacking the openers with an onslaught of cream pies leaving the stage, the band and the instruments in a state of complete disarray. Rush didn’t let it end there though with them taking their revenge three fold with pies, silly string and string cheese, with a little added bonus of smelly cheese left in front of the die hard KISS fans to enjoy for the rest of the concert.

2. Mozart Knew How to Use Music to Prank

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was not a fan of Adriana Ferrarese del Bene, cast member of his Opera of Così fan tutte and sought to play a prank on her using her idiosyncratic tick of bobbing her head down on low notes and to bring it up on high notes. In turn he ended writing the most movement heavy piece sending her head on a while roller coaster ride of ups and downs.

1. Johnny Cash and his Chicken Fiasco

Johnny Cash (& kitten) lock screen

Known to be on the crazier side of things, even though his somber image, Johnny Cash had a streak for pranks and generic rock star antics that hit their crescendo in the late 1950s in Nebraska. Sneaking away from his hotel Cash managed to get his hands on 500 baby chicks and brought them back to the hotel, where he unleashed the fury of 100 baby chickens on each floor of his 5 floor hotel. The real question were left with is how much the clean up bill is for 500 chicks?
