Double Mastectomy Survivor Reclaims Her Body, Tattoos Permanent Lingerie on Breasts

After a double mastectomy, Allyson Lynch was left with battle scars on her breasts and she set out to find a way to reclaim her body. Already a tattoo enthusiast and a strong believer in the Beauty Behind Tattoos movement, she decided to get a meaningful tattoo over her battle scars to make them her own. The immediate suggestion was to tattoo on fake nipples and areola but she found that to be rather useless and instead decided to create what she dubbed “permanent lingerie.”

A floral print was decided and the process to take back what’s hers began, and the final product is beautiful and empowering to all around the world!

The movement of tattooing over mastectomy scars has been blowing up in the past years, with many studios and organizations setting out to help these survivors get back a sense of normalcy in their everyday lives. The Colorado based Personal Ink studio, or P.INK, has been at the helm of the movement, reaching out to breast cancer survivors to come and reclaim their bodies. Below you’ll find pictures of these beautiful women and the art that has allowed them to be proud of these scars that were once a bad memory.
