Boy Wakes Up in Hospital to Find Doctor Did Unexpected Surgery to His “Best Friend”
Most people don’t like spending time in the hospital. It’s not exactly the “happiest” of places and it’s not fun to be reminded that you’re not well. This can be especially challenging when it comes to children.
One little boy understood that fully when he was told that he’d need to undergo surgery. But what was really shocking, was that the doctor had other plans up his sleeve that the little boy and his parents didn’t know about.
When the little boy went under at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, nobody expected him to be woken up with a new and improved “best friend”. The kind doctor at the hospital decided that the boy’s friend should get the urgent care that he needed as well.
“After performing surgery on a young boy, Dr. Groth made the extra effort to perform an additional surgery on the boy’s best friend – his stuffed animal. Our doctors, nurses and staff go out of their way to make sure every child feels comfortable and safe. Whether it’s stitching up their favorite toy or dressing up as their favorite character, we know how to make children feel better.”
The amazing part is that this isn’t the first time Dr. Groth has went above and beyond for his little, happy patients.
One of the Facebook moms, Kate Kaddatz, was thrilled to see this photo posted online and finally discovered the culprit who patched up her son’s stuffed animal during a recent visit.
“Oh my goodness!! It must have been him who stitched up my son’s pillow pet monkey while we were there to see Dr. Groth last month!! He went in with duct tape on him (because stuffing was falling out and this mama doesn’t know how to sew!). I noticed when we got home that the monkey was stitched up!! Thank you so much, Dr. Groth!! That really meant a lot that you took the time to go the extra mile!!”
Michelle Grohoski added:
“When my daughter was at children’s for getting her broken leg set. Her stuffed animal also came out with a cast on his leg.”
And it doesn’t just stop at surgery. Dr. Groth also knows his way around an X-ray machine.
“Yup they did an x-ray on Elmo…( yes this was ten years ago…with actual FILM! LOL) and we still have it!”
“My daughter had cochlear implant surgery and so did her cat!!!! Loved Childrens”
“My daughter had brain surgery and so did Cookie Monster”
It’s amazing to see Dr. Groth and the staff at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin help these children cope with scary experiences such as surgery.
Marisol Rivera-Morales sums this up perfectly:
“It takes a special kind of person to work with children. Its not easy dealing with little people who are scared and in pain. Wonderful staff!”
