Ex-Teacher Creates Optical Illusions with Makeup, and It’s Beyond Trippy

When we say makeup our thoughts immediately go to the red carpet glamour of A-list Hollywood celebrities but this Vancouver based ex-teacher turned makeup artist has something different to show the world.

Mimi Choi has been blowing up on the social media sphere with her high-level visual effects skills, creating in-depth 3D sculptures and optical illusions on her human canvases. From making skin look like its cracking all the way to making it seem like her eyes are closed with shoe laces, the depth at which she can go doesn’t stop!

Using different techniques that masterfully mix advanced makeup and drawing techniques she manipulates shadows and contrasts to create illusions of highs and lows, valleys and dips to redefine what the human face can look like.

Now you’re wondering how you can do this yourself? Well don’t get too worried as she usually lists off all her products used after a new post and they all tend to come from your local makeup store, nothing too high end or exclusive. If you had all of these materials in hand, what would you try to create with a human canvas?
